Prepare the Slide for View on the VLE

Once a slide is imported and (if needed) annotated in your own OMERO account, it needs to be handed over to a course-specific account before it can be served on the VLE (e.g. via the Moodle plugin). This is done entirely in OMERO.web - no image data is re-uploaded or re-exported, just duplicated and reassigned.

Step 1 – Start from your own account

Make sure the slide (imported and annotated per the previous steps) is visible under your own OMERO account.

Step 2 – Duplicate the slide

Use the omero-duplicator plugin to create an independent copy of the image. Work on the duplicate from here on, not the original - this keeps your own original copy untouched regardless of what happens to the course-facing one later.

Step 3 – Annotate the duplicate, if needed

If the slide needs teaching annotations and they aren't already in place, add them now - see Add Teaching Annotations.

Step 4 – Move the slide to the shared group

Course-specific OMERO accounts live in the same OMERO group as the relevant staff (e.g. a "Dental School" group shared by staff and course accounts alike). The slide first needs to move into that group before it can change owner - a slide can only be reassigned to a user within its own group.

Right-click the duplicated image and choose Move to Group..., then select the group you and the target course account both belong to.

Step 5 – Change the owner to the course account

Now right-click the slide again and choose Change Owner..., and select the course-specific account (e.g. "Oral Biology Year 1") - a dedicated OMERO account per course/module, not a real person's account.

Use the Switch Group/User selector at the top of the page to check the slide now appears under the correct group and owner.

Once the slide is under the course account, continue to Add Slides to Virtual Learning Materials.
